Sé de Lisboa III

Detailed description

With a double bed in the bedroom and a double sofa-bed in the living room, this cosy apartment in Alfama easily sleeps 4 guests, and for large groups it's possible to rent the other two floors in the building, to accommodate up to 12 persons all together.

This is the third and top floor of a renovated building with no lift, but the walk upstairs is well worth the effort, due to the absolutely stunning views of Lisbon and the Tagus River.

Being part of a characteristic magnolia building in the city’s old town quarter, this apartment gives you an authentic taste of Lisbon. It receives plenty of natural light and is decorated with simple, pleasing furniture which blends perfectly with the light hardwood flooring and marble surfaces providing a classic backdrop.

In the lounge there is an L-shaped sofa which folds out to create a comfortable double bed. There is a dining table with seating for four and access to a narrow balcony from which guests may look out on to the typical street below. There is cable TV with many International channels and wi-fi high-speed Internet.

The bedroom has 1 double bed, bedside tables, and reading lamps. The clean and modern bathroom has a shower, washbasin, WC. and in the kitchen, apart from a complete set of kitchenware, the equipment includes a gas cooker and oven, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, blender, juicer, dishwasher and toaster.

The apartment and the building itself have been renovated in recent years, making this a modern property with all mod cons in a traditional environment for you to enjoy the best of Lisbon

Location and Surroundings

This property is located in the heart of the Alfama Old Town district of Lisbon. This is a traditional area, once home to the poor fishermen of Portugal's capital and the only part of the city to have survived the 18th century earthquake.

Families have lived for generations in this area, which still retains a village-like atmosphere and most of its quaint 18th century architecture; terracotta rooftops, little cobbled streets, and flower-filled balconies.

The name of the apartment, "Sé de Lisboa", comes from the city's Cathedral, a short 10 minute walk away. The Castelo de São Jorge fortress, with fantastic city views, is even closer, as is the São Vicente de Fora monastery of the famous Feira da Ladra fleamarket, held every Tuesday and Saturday Campo Santa Clara.

Transport is provided by the well-known Number 28 Tram or cable car, which takes you through the narrow cobbled streets and into downtown Lisbon. Although, if you enjoy getting a feel for the city and taking in the sights, you can walk into the centre of town in around 20 minutes.

150 euros in cash is required on arrival as a security deposit, to be returned at the end of your stay if no damage is caused.

The location was very good with a village feel but in the heart of the city. The apartment is light and has great views over the roof tops. It was a surprise to wake up hearing only the sound of birds in the morning.

Very convenient location for the places of interest to us with good value for money local restaurants. The host, Patricia, was very friendly and helpful. The cosy apartment had all we needed for our brief but enjoyable stay in Lisbon. Good Fado Saturday evening in the next door restaurant.
