Detailed description

This is a spacious 1-bedroom apartment that easily accommodates up to 4 guests, since it has a double bed and a double sleeper couch in the living room. With 2 bathrooms, full guest comfort is guaranteed.

The apartment is on the first floor of this well-restored block. Bear in mind that many Lisbon apartment buildings have only one apartment per floor; this one has 4 flats in total- one on each of its 4 floors. There are 2 short flights of stairs to the apartment and no lift.

The apartment is essentially open plan with a spacious living and dining area. Two sets of double doors open onto the Lisbon style balcony- wide enough to stand and admire the (smallish) view of the River Tagus; not wide enough to put a chair and table on. The balcony doors are double glazed as well as having shutters and curtains shutting out most sound and light.

The sofa converts into a comfortable double bed; ideal for another couple or when 2 guests want separate sleeping space. Flat screen TV, a good selection of Portuguese and English language cable channels, radio, digital media player and fast WiFi are all here.

The kitchen can either be part of the living area or partitioned off with a sliding door when you want to keep your dinner guests in pleasant suspense. Granite counters, built in glass top stove and oven, dishwasher, washing machine and large fridge freezer all there for domestic and culinary enjoyment. A 4 seater dining table is in the dining space between the kitchen and lounge.

The bedroom has a double bed and a large wardrobe. Windows on two of the bedroom walls allow for air flow on warmer nights. The main bathroom has a shower, large hand basin and toilet. A door in the passage isolates the main bathroom and the bedroom from the rest of the apartment. The guest bathroom consists of a basin and toilet and is independently accessible from the lounge and guests using the sofa bed at night.

Location and Surroundings

The apartment overlooks the tram tracks of the Ascensor da Bica that trundles up and down every 20 minutes or so from Rua da Sao Paulo below to Calcada da Combro at the top. It runs from 09:00 to 21:00 (it stops earlier on Sundays) and is quieter than the average motor vehicle as it passes by. No other vehicles are permitted to use this stretch of road.

Around the corner and up some steps (a 300m walk) is the Miradouro de Santa Catarina which overlooks the river. A 500m walk will get you to Bairro Alto and its nightlife or Chiado, that district of languid classiness. 700m will get you to Cais do Sodre: trains, buses and the excellent Lisbon Metro.

For groceries there is the Minipreco on Rua da Sao Paulo or Calçada do Combro or Pingo Doce at Cais do Sodre station.

A security deposit of 150 euros is taken in cash on arrival, to be returned in full during check-out if no damage is done to the property.
If you are checking in between 20:00h and 00:00h there is a 30 euros "late check in" surcharge. After 00:00h there is a 40 euros charge. Initial cleaning is absolutely free.
