The ALFAMA RIVER II APARTMENT is is a 1-bedroom 3rd floor flat with truly magnificent views of the expansive River Tagus estuary, and suitable for up to 4 guests.

This self-catering property is one of a pair, because we own and rent the 4th floor apartment also. Both apartments have the same space and facilities and can be rented together if you have a large group. The building is located right next to the traditional Alfama district, and is literally just 2 minutes walk from the Santa Apolonia Metro & Train Station, where there is a convenient supermarket. The apartment has truly magnificent views of the expansive River Tagus estuary, and even the Cristo Rei statue across the river in Almada can be seen from its windows.

APARTMENT LOCATION


Address: Calçada do Forte, 50 - 3rd Floor. 1100-256 Lisboa

 

The apartment is located next to the Old Town district of Alfama, and just round the corner from the Santa Apolonia Metro & Train station.

This area has plenty of cafeterias, bars, traditional Fado restaurants, as well as the small village-type shops typical of Alfama.

In the Santa Apolonia station there is a "Pingo Doce" supermarket and just opposite the station there is a chemist's (pharmacy).

On the opposite side of the main road, next to the river, there is a large open-air carpark which charges just 4.95 euros per day.

The area is convenient for sight-seeing: you can easily walk to the central Praça do Comercio square in about 15 minutes, and the wonderful "miradouros" (viewpoints) of Alfama, like the Portas do Sol, and Miradouro Santa Luzia are just a 10 minute walk away. The majestic Panteão Nacional (National Pantheon) - where the famous Fado singer Amalia Rodrigues is buried - is just round the corner.

NOTE: This is a 3rd floor apartment in an old traditional area of central Lisbon, where the buildings don't have lifts/elevators and is therefore not suitable for wheelchair users or guests with mobility problems.

The dining area is adjacent to the kitchen, but separated from the cooking area by a pine bench with bar-stools. This is especially convenient for quick snacks in the kitchen, or sitting at the bench enjoying a glass of Portuguese wine while accompanying the person doing the cooking:

I believe I can speak for Imran in our agreement that renting your apartment, instead of a hotel room, made our stay in Lisbon ideal. We enjoyed feeling like locals coming "home" to the apartment, which had everything we needed to enjoy cooking some meals at home and to relax enjoying the ocean breeze and the view.
The apartment was exceptionally clean, well kept and very functional. We loved the spacious kitchen, bar and dining room, especially since we had planned some meals at home. I also really appreciated the thoughtfulness of providing all the accommodations of a dishwasher, washing machine, cleaning supplies, hair dryer, tupperware, etc. We found everything we needed except maybe a few extra towels.

I had a fruitful and delightful time in Lisbon and, regrettably, I must return to Rome, as planned, on 23OCT'09. I had a lovely stay in the apartment. It was really nice, comfortable and the location was perfect. And above all, the weather was beautiful (what more could I ask for.....).
I definitely look forward to another break in Lisbon and would love to stay in the apartment again. I have also highly recommended it to my friends and family.
