The apartment is located next to the Old Town district of Alfama, and just round the corner from the Santa Apolonia Metro & Train station.

This area has plenty of cafeterias, bars, traditional Fado restaurants, as well as the small village-type shops typical of Alfama.

In the Santa Apolonia station there is a "Pingo Doce" supermarket and just opposite the station there is a chemist's (pharmacy).

On the opposite side of the main road, next to the river, there is a large open-air carpark which charges just 4.95 euros per day.

The area is convenient for sight-seeing: you can easily walk to the central Praça do Comercio square in about 15 minutes, and the wonderful "miradouros" (viewpoints) of Alfama, like the Portas do Sol, and Miradouro Santa Luzia are just a 10 minute walk away. The majestic Panteão Nacional (National Pantheon) - where the famous Fado singer Amalia Rodrigues is buried - is just round the corner.

NOTE: This is a 1st floor apartment in an old traditional area of central Lisbon, where the buildings don't have lifts/elevators. Although you only have to climb a few stairs, we advise that it is not suitable for wheelchair users or guests with mobility problems.

CUSTOMER COMMENTS & REVIEWS

Lisa Thornton (2 guests, 12 - 14 July, 2011):

"Wonderful service great location!"
Loved the style and position of appartment. It has been renovated in keeping with the charm of the area. Roger couldnt have been more helpful either! Waited for our late arrival and even assisted with suitcases while my partner tried to find parking! Also provided us with lots of local information. Great to stay in old area with charm and character w tapas bars & local eateries in all the back streets around us.

"feeling the pulse of the city"
We stayed in an old appartement in the middle af the alfama district. Just open the window and you feel the pulse of the city. The appartement was lovely and you could fel its history

Kanika Mehta (4 adults, 2 - 5 July, 2011):

"Excellent"
Cozy apartment - quaint, clean and nicely decorated. We were a family of four adults, and thouroughly enjoyed our stay. Roger was very friendly and helpful. The only slight issue for us (as we had 2 adults >65yrs travelling with us) was the incline to reach the apartment (steep climb from st apolonia station) + flight of stairs.. Apart from that, we couldnt flaw the apartment at all.. Thans Roger for this lovely experience.

Mart Kand (3 adults, 28 June - 1 July, 2011):

"Roger's Alfama apartment"
From one hand a great experinece to feel how welcomed You are accompanied with a very warm and discrete hosting by Roger. From the other hand we feel really good opportunity to meet Lisboa, which is absoluelty unique to compare with other capitals in Europe. Great location. Very stylish interior. We do recommend to all visitors in future.

Jose Mesquita (4 adults, 25 - 28 June, 2011):

Very good location, near train and subway station (Santa apolonia),interesting points to visit, services and commerce.

Mike Robson (2 adults, 12 - 18 June, 2011):

Lots of character, quiet & handy
Well located in the alfama area, the apartment is close to the main attractions and the waterfront, but well insulated from any noise which was important because it was the main annual festival when we were there. It has been renovated cleverly in a traditional style and is well equipped. Booking, check in and service was very efficient. A very good all round experience.

Jane Pickersgill (2 adults & 2 children, 1 - 8 June, 2011):

2nd time here, won't be the last- so says it all really.
Met with keys, into the apartment & holiday starts.Every amenity, nice touches of shower gel, wash up liquid, iron, hairdryer so saves carting them from UK.Close to train staion which has a supermarket, pick up a picnic & away we go,easy access to the city & beyond.Plenty of authentic restaurants close by after a long days sightseeing. The apartment has become our "retreat" in Lisbon,Home from Home. Its comfortable, and the owner will help with anything you need.Nothing is too much trouble.Have recommended twice & will continue to do so.

Lilian Redada (6 adults, 10 - 14 May, 2011):

Portugal 2011
Rogers place is one of the cleanest, affordable, convenient and accessible to most of the historical and religious places we have visited in Lisbon. The 2 bedrooms in his apartment is so so amazing that we regret staying only for 5 days.Apolonia train station is a 3 minutes walk from his apartment, the starting point that will bring you everywhere.I highly recommend the place to anyone who wants to visit Portugal. You will never regret at all.Roger is so honest, caring person that you can get in touch with him anytime via email, phone call or personally. Thanks a lot Roger we will visit the place again.

Susana Daly (3 adults, 3 - 9 May, 2011):

Everything as promised
It was great to arrive in Lisbon to the apartment we had booked in australia to find it exactly as described on the website. Great location in hilly alfama near plenty of good restaurants and handy to Santa appolonia train station - the station was a really good landmark for us and the metro was very handy as well. This place is quiet and great value for money.

Juliette Soissons (4 adults, 17 - 22 April, 2011):

Dear Roger, thanks a lot for everything. The appartment is very comfortable and nice placed. We have passed a good trip in this beautiful city. We will be back. Famille Soissons

Audrey Harris (4 adults, 17 - 21 March, 2011):

Great apartment, great location.
Four of us had a great time during our recent stay in Lisbon. the apartment was clean, tidy and comfortable and in a great location. We loved the old charm of the exposed stonework, beams and tiles. Easy access to Santa apolonia station and local bars/restaurants. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Serena Chua (2 adults, 15 - 17 March, 2011):

In a Word - PERFECT
It was just PERFECT in the prettiest quarter of Lisbon! We super loved our apartment which had EVERYTHING we needed... so we prepared breakfast each morning (supermarket is inside train station which is a few minutes walk from the unit). I was particularly happy to find the Italian coffee pot (Moka pot) sitting in the kitchen counter as strong coffee is essential to me.
The apartment is fabulous with the style of old-time Lisbon (tiles so beautiful); the beds very comfortable with the cleanest white sheets and the rooms beyond cozy with its decor. Quality windows in the living room area ensured silence in the apartment.
Roger was WONDERFUL, too, from reservation to check-out! And, Sr. Fado restaurant very nearby (open Wed, Fri, Sat), made our last evening unforgettable with Fado heart-n-soul performance!
Before choosing a vacation place, I usually read reviews for at least one week. When someone complains about noise, I cross the place out. When just one person complains that the place is dirty, I look at the next option. So for those of you who are high-maintenance ... look no further.

Olga Vaksina (4 adults, 6 - 12 March, 2011):

Lovely cosy appartment, great location- close to train / metro station / taxi parking / walking distance to city center and to the best lookout point. Makes a great location for 2 couples and for 2 friends who want own space.

Nicole Andreoli (6 adults, 17 - 20 February, 2011):

Very comfortable and characteristic location.
Very close to Santa apolonia underground station, 15 minutes from the city center by walk. Very frendly and forthcoming host. Nice apartment, with new and characteristic interior and all comforts. We would suggest immediately to anyone.

William Froman (2 adults, 12 - 16 February, 2011):

Wonderful alfama apartment.
We had a fantastic four days in Lisbon, and loved our apartment. Its old and new design combination was very nice. All the appliances performed well, and the matress was welcomed by my bad back. Thank you for the fado suggestion of 'Sr Fado' down the street. We spent our first evening there until 2am and enjoyed every minute of it. We will visit you again.

Lizzy Ponsaert (4 adults, 28 December, 2010 - 2 January, 2011):

We are very much enjoying our stay and we love "our" alfama apartment and what you have done with it. congratulations, you obviously have very good taste. today is our last day in lisboa. tomorrow we have to leave and it will be with pain in the heart. but also with the strong conviction that we will be back.

Polina Chatzi (4 adults, 25 - 29 December, 2010):

We liked the decoration and it was fully equiped. It was very cosy, comfortable, next to the most beautiful area of Lisbon and very close to metro, train station.

Anne Sutherland (2 adults, 14 - 15 & 19 November, 2010):

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your apartment. I especially liked the hidden lights in the walls...very effective :0) The apartment had loads of charm and we were very comfortable. The only downside was the musty smell when we first walked in, but that only lasted till we opened up the windows.
The location was perfect for us. Not ever being in Lisbon before, we had no idea where to stay. Turned out this was a great location to use the train system, and it only cost us 10 euros to get to the airport. We were also able to walk in to town and back which was a plus. You should also mention on your website that it's directly accross the street from the Cruise port. We found out afterwards that the apartment was exactly where we docked!
We would definitely recommend your apartment to anyone heading that way.

Our reply:
Hi Anne,
Just before you arrived there was a leak from the water pipes running through the ceiling, which we had fully repaired, but the wooden beams were a little damp and probably needed the windows opening to dry properly. I'm glad that it disappeared quickly for you.
Thanks very much for your comments and we're happy you enjoyed your stay!

Peppe Fanelli (3 adults, 4 - 7 November, 2010):

For us it has been a wonderful week end, probably unexpected!!! We leaved Italy because of visiting Fatima and discover Lisbon has been a nice surprise. I knew that Alfama was the only district survived at earthquake but i didn't realize that was so suggestive. The apartement has been a part of this suggestiveness and we've been very satisfied to think of returning in a short time. Thanks and see you later.

Karine Grimault (2 adults, 23 - 30 October, 2010):

We were back home safely and full of good memories.
About the appartement, we appreciated it for many reasons, but manly because it is well located (close to the station and taxi point, in the heart of a popular area with many restaurants around) and it is a charming place. We enjoyed the decoration: a mix between old and new styles, with all the confort. Some details are important, as the modern kitcheen with good equipment, as towels available. So we didn't need to care for those details. Once more, the appartment is lovely. We appreacidated alos because it we very very clean. Also, it was easy and quick to get the keys. Only 1 thing was "so so": the room on the left can be noisy on the morning because we hear people in the corridor.

David Basin (4 adults, 13th - 19th October, 2010):

We found the apartment charming, the location excellent, and enjoyed our stay. It was large enough for the four of us, although we didn't end up doing any cooking there. I would recommend it to friends who are interested in something more authentic than a standard hotel.

Brigitte Orsoni (3 adults, 30th September - 5th October, 2010):

very fine, Roger, everything was alright ; the area is very convenient because of the metro at 5 minutes ..... if we have some friends who intend to stay at Lisbon we will give them your contact

Carey Fuller (2 adults, 16th - 19th September, 2010):

We had a fantastic time in Lisbon. The apartment was ideally situated for wandering about the alfama. It was spotless, very comfortable and well furnished. We also thought the refurbishment was superbly done and in keeping with Portuguese tradition. We would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an apartment in the aflama without hesitation.

Chris Wallen (3 adults, 9th - 13th September, 2010):

Hi Roger, we arrived home last night after four very enjoyable days in Lisbon. Thank you for being so helpful and looking after our luggage until tea-time yesterday.
We really enjoyed the apartment which has loads of character and is so well placed with the wide choice of bars and restaurants of the Alfama virtually on the doorstep and a variety of transport options to other parts of the city within a few hundred metres. Three of us shared the apartment and thought that it might seem a touch crowded with more than that in residence but, that aside, we would be happy to recommend it to others and we couldn't fault your service. It was kind of you to show the apartment on the floor above and we have looked at the two on the top floors online this afternoon. We visit Lisbon about once a year and hope to see you again when we will try one of the other apartments, we just need to decide which.

Alvaro Pereira (3 adults & 3 children, 8th - 16th August, 2010):

The apartment was great. Though we were 6 (with 3 very excited children), there was space and comfort for everybody. The location was also excellent--close to the train station, within walking distance of many, many great sights, and a great tapas bar right downstairs! Thanks and we definitely hope to be able to stay there again.

Ulrika Westman (3 adults, 21 - 28 July, 2010):

We had a lovely time in the city as well as in your apartment. We liked it very much indeed! There is really nothing I can say against it, (possibly with the exception of the walls beeing a bit thin, but there's hardly much you can do about that!).
Location was perfect - I loved the area. The apartment had practically everything we needed and we especially appreciated the maps and info you had left for us.
I would definitely recommend the apartment to a friend that was going to Lisboa.

Joanna Goldman (4 adults, 7 - 9 May, 2010):

The apartment was perfect, never had the opportunity to explore the Alfama before and we really enjoyed it, and it was amazingly quiet!!!
If i may, I'd like to give you just a couple of points of feedback ... not criticisms (i would never be so presumptious!!!) but just some things that you might want to consider since we were the first to ever stay in that apartment.
It might be a good idea to put another couple of more comfortable chairs/sofa in the lounge, it would have been great for all 4 of us to be able to all sit back and lounge around comfortably and chat. Also the shower head came off a couple of times ... but that may have been due to the awesome water pressure there! So impressed with that and with the fact that we never ran out of hot water!!!!
Thanks again to you and Ana Paula for making this possible and for the smooth "operation".
I will definitely be reccommending you to anyone looking for someplace to stay in Lisbon!!

Our reply:
Thanks for your kind comments Joanna - as you can see from the new photos and video, we have installed 2 more comfortable armchairs as per your suggestion. We have also had the shower head fixed. Thanks again!
